Craft an Efficient Surveillance Framework in Bangkok by
LILIN Cameras

Implementing an efficient deployment in a bustling urban city

Next to BTS Chitlom station in Bangkok, adjacent to the Erawan Shrine, is a bustling commercial district packed with department stores and luxury hotels, often considered the heart of the city's vibrant scene.

In this metropolis, which boasts the world's highest annual tourist arrivals of 22.78 million, daily crowds are a common sight. Coupled with its status as a major transportation hub and a convergence point for public transit, finding optimal surveillance solutions for maintaining crowd safety and facilitating efficient governmental management has long been a challenging yet crucial issue.

Challenges

For instance, consider the skywalk overpasses running alongside the BTS tracks. Day or night, the flow of people passing through is consistently substantial. Thoughtful planning for optimal camera and recording device placement to achieve the highest resource efficiency is essential when setting up surveillance systems in such locations.

Southeast Asian climates are notoriously variable, with mornings often featuring intense sunshine and afternoons bringing torrential thunderstorms. How can cameras effectively manage these drastic lighting changes to capture optimal images? Moreover, can they withstand the harsh outdoor conditions of high temperatures and humidity prevalent in the region?

Furthermore, in complex monitoring environments with heavy pedestrian traffic, efficient AI is vital for detecting various events and optimizing manpower. Traditional AI surveillance solutions often require additional computing units or host computers for processing, which can significantly strain resources. This includes considerations such as wiring, network infrastructure, space utilization, and the substantial costs associated with central control centers.

Solution

LILIN's surveillance solutions have been cultivating the Southeast Asian market for many years, possessing mature expertise in addressing localized demands. Their latest all-in-one AI camera series, the Z7, effectively tackles all the aforementioned challenges at once.

The Z7 camera features eight million pixels, versatile zoom settings, and can record images at up to 4K resolution. These 4K resolution videos can be efficiently compressed using Smart H.265 format before transmission to recording devices. This means each camera can capture clearer scenes, potentially reducing the overall number of cameras needed and optimizing network bandwidth usage.

The quality of the images speaks for itself. LILIN transitioned from the analog era to digital imaging, evolving from standard resolution to ultra-high resolution long ago.

With rich experience in optical and imaging engine calibration, all LILIN cameras are capable of day and night operation, featuring enhanced settings for high-contrast environments or low-light conditions, without concerns about the complexity of lighting conditions.

AI is the flagship feature of the Z7. Image recognition, behavior detection including human traffic, vehicle flow, animals, various objects, lost items, abandoned items, and crossing boundaries between areas are all handled directly on the front-end camera. This achieves true edge computing without the need for additional host devices.

As a result, backend server performance pressure is significantly reduced, and with proper utilization, overall bandwidth efficiency can also be optimized.

Outcomes

After integrating the LILIN Z7 AI camera, the enhancements in overall monitoring efficiency and cost reduction are readily apparent. For new installations, a single camera setup requires just a PoE network cable.

For existing surveillance setups, if the current network cables support PoE, upgrading involves straightforwardly swapping out old cameras with LILIN models, making it a seamless upgrade process.

LILIN cameras, equipped with built-in AI and event management capabilities, have made it much easier for relevant units to review footage and search for incidents. This has led to a reduction in false alarms and helps prevent unnecessary resource wastage during event handling.

However, these tasks only scratch the surface of what the LILIN Z7 series AI cameras can achieve.

"If that's all, our AI cameras haven't fully unleashed their potential yet!" remarked Steve Hu, Chief Information Officer and Head of AI Innovation at LILIN, leading the development of AI functionalities. "Retailers could consider deploying Z7 cameras to calculate foot traffic and implement VIP welcoming systems, which would positively assist in alleviating queues and enhancing entrance security checks."

In the bustling heart of Bangkok, where crowds throng and tourists abound, adopting LILIN surveillance solutions showcases LILIN's robust monitoring framework, recognized for its resilience by relevant authorities.

If it works in downtown Bangkok, where wouldn't it?
